Violin Making: Thursdays 14:30–17:00 May Term

This course is aimed at amateurs/hobbyists, and requires no previous woodworking experience.

Classes run on 5/6-week rolling blocks, with approximately 2-3 week gaps between each block.

Commitment only required for one session at a time, but if a class does not reached a minimum of 3 participants for a session they will be cancelled with 72 hours notice.

Bookings are non-refundable. However, if you are unable to attend and your place can be filled by another participant, a refund or credit may be issued.

About the course

Ever fancied making your own violin or fiddle? Join me for a relaxed, hands-on evening class where you’ll learn to make your very own violin in a friendly workshop setting.

You are not limited to making a ‘traditional’ violin during this class. You may also opt to make:

  • Viola

  • 5-string violin

  • Cornerless/viol style violin

  • Decorated violin

  • Pochette/kit fiddle 

Whether you’re a woodworking beginner or have a half-made instrument already that you’d like to finish, this course will guide you through the process step by step.

Classes are small (maximum 5 people). You’ll work at your own pace, with guidance tailored to your experience and interests.
