Crafting violins inspired by nature, tradition, and community
Moving with the seasons, as in traditional craftsmanship, is at the heart of my instrument-making. The changing rhythms of the natural world influence many aspects of my work, from the materials I choose to the way I craft each instrument.
Materials
My instruments are made with high quality tonewood: maple back, neck and sides and a spruce top.
I can also source and work with local and more unusual woods. I currently have a stock of storm-felled ash from the Peak District with beautiful flame and character.
What you’ll receive
Along the way you’ll receive photos of your instrument in progress.
You will be presented with a certificate of authenticity upon purchase.
Your instrument will be set up to your specifications, with a wide choice of fittings and strings.
You will also be given a free service at 6-12 months, in order to carry out any tonal adjustments as the instrument matures.
Customers may be as involved in the process as they would like to be: you can come to the workshop and select the wood and you’ll receive regular images and updates as the making progresses.
